55 SOUTH WILLIAM STREET, DUBLIN 2
An existing, protected, Georgian Terrace building, 55 South William Street is located in the heart of what was once Dublin’s garment district. The associated industrial machinery and materials used by the garment industry at this time likely contributed to the subsequently deflected floors.
The building has more recently been used for retail and has had various interventions carried out, for example an open plan ground floor space was created and an extension added to the rear. The proposed works will upgrade the floor structures and refurbish the building to allow for café/restaurant space from basement to 1st floor and office space on second and third floor. The rear extension will be rebuilt and reconfigured to provide an outdoor terrace area for the café/restaurant. The key challenge associated with upgrading the existing structure for its future use is being sympathetic to the original fabric of the building, for example, conserving the ornate cornicing and historic ceilings below each floor level. CS Consulting are working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver a project in Dublin’s retail and leisure core within what is now the Creative Quarter of the city.
