RCSI ERC EXTENSION

RCSI ERC EXTENSION, BEAUMONT HOSPITAL

Status: Complete (2017-2022)

Client: RCSI

Size: 2,787 sq.m

The RCSI Education & Research Centre (ERC) extension at Beaumont Hospital is an expansion to the existing Smurfit Building, adding a new student concourse, flexible tutorial rooms, open-plan faculty offices, and research laboratories. The extension consists of 3 levels linked to the existing building and provides essential academic and research facilities for the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.

The extension is constructed with a multi-storey structure and clad in white polished concrete panels. It incorporates a combination of reinforced concrete and steel elements to accommodate the flexible space requirements. The project was completed in a live hospital environment, requiring careful construction management to minimise disruption.

This development utilised BIM Level 1, which enhanced collaboration, reduced design conflicts, and improved overall project efficiency through precise drafting and data integration.
