The St. Ita's Community Hospital in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, is undergoing an expansion with the construction of a new 18-bed residential extension. This development aims to enhance inpatient care capabilities, including palliative care services, while maintaining seamless integration with the existing hospital infrastructure.

The project, designed to be compact to accommodate mobility-impaired residents, includes the demolition of parts of an existing car park to make way for the extension and a new parking facility. Additionally, upgrades to the stormwater drainage system with advanced features like a petrol interceptor, hydrobrake, and attenuation tank ensure functionality and environmental compliance. This extension links directly to the day hospital through the existing Jasmine unit and Sunflower ward, aligning with the standards of care for the protected structure listed on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.
