The Merrion Building is a 5-storey office development located between the Davenport Hotel and American College Dublin on Merrion Street Lower, Dublin 2. The new building replaced a 2-storey 1950s structure and includes office space on the first to fourth floors, with a reception, canteen, shower, and changing facilities on the ground floor. A penthouse level features a setback terrace and a green roof, contributing to its modern design.
The building's structure consists of reinforced concrete columns and walls with post-tensioned (PT) concrete slabs. The roof incorporates composite slabs on steel decking supported by Westok beams. The superstructure was carefully coordinated with in-situ slabs for the core and composite, precast, and PT slabs throughout the building.
The building achieved a BER A3 rating. Civil and structural challenges included adjustments to pile positions to avoid existing ESB live services, designing a precast bridge slab for right-of-way access, and creating cantilever wall beams to support upper floors over restricted areas.
