COMMEMORATIVE BRIDGE

WAR MEMORIAL GARDEN COMMEMORATIVE BRIDGE

Status: Live

Client: Office of Public Works

This project features the design and development of a new commemorative bridge across the River Liffey at the National War Memorial Gardens in Dublin. The bridge was designed by Ritchie Studio and uses the slimmest feasible stainless‑steel arch (only ~35 cm deep at mid‑span), meant to feel like a “blade” emerging from the riverbanks, without pylons or cables.

The balustrades feature stainless steel “reeds”, referencing local estuarine flora, and the deck includes imprints of boot‑steps that lead toward the gardens—but intentionally not back—to memorialize those lost in the war

A ceremonial entrance plaza on the Chapelizod Road side will include stainless steel gates and a granite exedra wall about 3.5 m high marking the garden entrance, followed by a yew-hedged formal plaza with a commemorative stone. A new traffic crossing at Chapelizod Road is also included as part of the project.

Our Team fulfilled the role of local Civil, Structural & Traffic Engineers alongside Ritchie Studio and Sbp Engineers.
